Although Lila is not Native Indian, her life has been strongly influenced by her ties to Native people. At sixteen she married a young Native Indian man. She later returned to school and became an elementary school teacher. She taught school on and off Indian reserves throughout British Columbia for 25 years. During that time she earned three university degrees and gradually specialized in
Native Indian education.
Lila is now retired and lives in Vancouver, British Columbia.
